Arequipa clinic reception

International SOS in Peru: our Capabilities

Operating since 2012, our medical and security operations in Peru are fully integrated within the International SOS global infrastructure.

Peru has a range of good private hospitals and clinics, mainly located Lima. Most public hospitals provide a much lower standard of care and are not recommended. Elsewhere in Peru, the standard of medical care is even lower and communication in English is a challenge. As food and water related infections are the most common issues affecting expatriates and travellers, a vaccination and prevention plan are critical to mitigate risks. Also planning for a range of other infectious diseases, such Malaria, Zika, Dengue, Chikungunya and Yellow Fever should be considered.

Opportunistic street crime in cities is the main security concern for expatriate personnel and business travellers, particularly in the capital, Lima. Assaults and short-term abductions for the purpose of robbery are common. Highway robbery is also common, particularly at night. Public transport should be avoided due to the risk of petty and opportunistic crime; members should use a reputable company, or a car licensed through their hotel, rather than a taxi hailed on the street.
