International SOS is assisting impacted clients in Venezuela due to an increase in protest activity following the disputed result of the country's presidential election. On 29 July, spontaneous peaceful protests broke out across the country, which turned increasingly violent as the security forces and pro-government paramilitaries (known as ‘colectivos’) suppressed the protests. While the capital, Caracas, has been the most impacted, demonstrations and related violence have been reported in dozens of cities across the country. We are currently advising to minimise movement and remain in a secure location for all those already within the country, as there is considerable opportunity for further escalation and degradation of the security environment.
