Case Study

Sowing the Seeds of Effective Disability Management for a Global Agricultural Giant

Confronting multiple hurdles in their existing disability management approach, including cases tied to both occupational health (OH) and non-occupational health injuries and illnesses, the world's largest provider of crop inputs and services joined forces with International SOS to enhance their global disability management practices and processes.

The Canada-based organisation experienced a high volume of disability claims, resulting in substantial costs both in terms of premiums and lost time. Furthermore, certain cases related to occupational health were inadequately managed, leading to inefficiencies in the overall case management process.

International SOS consultants collaborated closely with the organisation's Human Resources team to tackle a range of challenges through a strategic, phased approach. Engaging with key stakeholders in phase 1, our consultants were able to identify the client's pain points and conducted a thorough analysis of their existing processes. Measures were implemented in phase 2, which included coordinating monthly reviews of Worker's Compensation Board (WCB) claims, integrating the Chief Health Advisor into incident response teams, and crafting an efficient case management workflow to minimise both Short-Term Disability (STD) and Long-Term Disability (LTD) claims.

By implementing proactive case management for emerging claims, we successfully minimised the progression of Short-Term Disability (STD) claims to Long-Term Disability (LTD), resulting in significant cost savings for the client. Our services resulted in:

  • 20,000 employees globally assisted
  • 12% reduction in Worker’s Compensation Board (WCB) claims
  • 5x cost in annual salary of losing an employee & retaining a successor
