International SOS strengthens medical response in Iraq with new in-country Response Centre in Basra

Adding to the company’s global network of Response Centres, the Iraq facility provides dedicated 24/7 medical coordination to support workforce health in complex environments.

International SOS has announced the launch of its Iraq Response Centre (IRC), a dedicated in-country medical coordination centre based in Basra. The Centre provides organizations operating across Iraq with 24/7 medically-led response and coordination, delivered by a team physically present in-country.

For organisations running remote operations across Iraq’s energy, construction and infrastructure sectors, the International SOS IRC addresses a long-standing need: medical response coordinated from within the country itself, rather than remotely. The Centre operates under the clinical supervision of an International SOS Medical Director, and maintains full English capability enhanced with native Arabic.

From the moment an incident is reported, the Centre coordinates the case end-to-end, clinical advisory, referral into a vetted local provider network, patient transfer coordination, guarantees of payment to receiving facilities, and case management through to resolution. Where a case requires support beyond Iraq, the Centre connects into the wider International SOS network, including the Dubai Assistance Centre.

The IRC draws on more than twelve years of continuous International SOS operation in Iraq and is held to the company’s global clinical and quality standards, including ISO/TS 13131, ISO 45001, ISO 9001 and NetS provider accreditation.
