Preparing for the Milano Cortina Winter Games

Ribbon

Ensuring the Health and Security of Your Guests, Staff, and Athletes

The Winter Games will take place in Italy from 6 February to 15 March 2026, across seven venues located in Lombardy, Veneto, and Trentino-Alto Adige.

The Games represent an event of historic significance, as they will be the most geographically widespread in history, covering an area of 22,000 square kilometers.

While this set-up offers an extraordinary opportunity for the region and for those managing the event, this will also result in a number of health, security, and logistical challenges involving organizers, sponsors, sports federations, and all organizations involved in the event.

Although Italy is considered a low-risk country, specific risks are to be considered in light of this event, requiring adapted mitigation and response.

Risk Factors

Access to Healthcare

In the immediate vicinity of the competition venues, the availability of medical facilities is limited, while the nearest primary hospitals are often located one to two hours away by ambulance.

Logistical Challenges

Some competition venues can be reached exclusively via mountain roads, which may pose accessibility issues in the event of severe winter conditions. In addition, airport infrastructure is limited, and there might be airspace restrictions during the event. Certain areas may also be subject to seismic activity.

Security Concerns

In the main host cities, there is a significant incidence of opportunistic crime, as well as potential for social unrest, strikes, and demonstrations.

In this environment, protecting your employees and guests requires an integrated approach to managing medical, security, and logistical risks. This involves structured planning, continuous threat monitoring, a reliable network of providers, and the ability to activate timely and effective on-site responses.
