MD William Buchta

William Buchta, MD, MS, MPH, is board-certified in Occupational Medicine and Public Health/General Preventive Medicine. He initially practiced in the US Air Force as a family physician but then started an occupational medicine practice in the Mayo Clinic Health System before becoming Medical Director of Employee Occupational Health at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. He is an emeritus assistant professor of the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science. Dr Buchta served as Vice President and Chief Medical Officer for Logistics Health, Inc., a subsidiary of United Healthcare/Optum.
Dr Buchta practiced as a Senior Medical Examiner with the Federal Aviation Administration for 19 years while with Mayo Clinic and has certified as a Medical Review Officer and a Medical Examiner with the Federal Motor Carriers Safety Administration. His strengths lie in disability management, fitness for duty, worker compensation, and medical center occupational health.
He joined the International Commission on Occupational Health (ICOH) in 2006 and was installed as President of the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (ACOEM) in 2018. He has lectured extensively, both nationally and internationally (Thailand, Ireland, South Korea, Germany, Brazil,
India, and South Africa since 2017), most recently about the impact of advancing technology on occupational medicine.
