Michael Tuggy, MD is a Clinical Professor at the University of Washington School of Medicine, and a rural family physician in the mountain valley in Winthrop, Washington.
He received his MD from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, then completed his Family Medicine residency at Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma, WA. He served for 7 years on active duty in the US Army including service in Iraq and Kuwait during the first Gulf War. After his military service he became the director of Swedish Family Medicine Residency in Seattle and pursued leadership positions within the education sector of family medicine in the US.
While the president of Association of Family Medicine Residency Directors, he joined other leaders in family medicine to develop the strategic plan for family medicine nationally. As part of that strategic initiative, he joined the Primary Care Innovators Network that had developed transformative payment and practice models of primary care to achieve better health care at lower cost.
