How Nanyang Technological University Safeguards Students Abroad with International SOS
Nanyang Technological University (NTU) offers students valuable overseas opportunities, from exchange programs to international competitions. To ensure their safety abroad, NTU partners with International SOS, providing comprehensive medical, security, and wellbeing support worldwide.
As a globally engaged university, Nanyang Technological University (NTU) sends students overseas for exchanges, competitions, and experiential learning. These programs expose students to unfamiliar environments and potential medical, security, and emotional risks.
NTU needed a trusted partner to support students before departure, during travel, and in critical incidents, while providing clear communication when situations escalate.
NTU partners with International SOS as its primary medical and security assistance provider, giving students access to expert support wherever they are in the world.
Support begins before students travel, with pre-travel advisories and briefings to help students understand destination-specific health and security considerations.
During their time abroad, students have 24/7 access to medical and security assistance via the International SOS Assistance App and global Assistance Centers, as well as virtual counselling to support their mental health.
International SOS’s comprehensive support—from travel preparation and real-time assistance to mental health care and crisis management—significantly strengthens NTU’s ability to safeguard our students abroad.
International SOS supports NTU students across a wide range of situations — from lost passports and illness to theft or help locating the nearest clinic. This immediate access to expert advice helps students take the right next steps quickly.
In more serious situations, International SOS plays a key role in coordinating emergency care and response. When a student in Canada was diagnosed with acute brain bleeding, International SOS closely monitored the hospitalization, kept NTU informed, coordinated medical repatriation, and ensured continuity of care upon the student’s return to Singapore.
Through its partnership with International SOS, NTU has strengthened its Duty of Care for students overseas. Students travel with greater confidence, knowing expert assistance is always accessible, while NTU gains clear communication, professional coordination, and comprehensive support to uphold its commitment to student safety and wellbeing globally.
This partnership adds significant value to NTU by enabling our students to pursue overseas experiences with confidence, knowing that robust support is always available.
