Overview
A student studying abroad in Paris suffered a mental health episode and was hospitalised. The school reached out to International SOS for advice and assistance.
Problem
Being away from home for the first time can have an impact on a student’s emotional well-being. The challenge for institutions is having a plan in place for the best emotional support, which includes family members and being prepared to bring the student home, if necessary.
Solution
The medical team in the Philadelphia Assistance Center coordinated with the school and hospital to quickly fly the student’s mother from the United States to France. Within two days, she was bedside with the student. We also coordinated medical expenses, closely monitored progress, and recommended repatriation to the US once the student was fit to fly.
