Overview
In late August 2023, Hurricane Idalia quickly formed into a dangerous storm over the Gulf of Mexico, taking direct aim at Florida. The storm later moved into Georgia and South Carolina.
Problem
Hurricane Idalia made landfall in the Big Bend region of Florida as a strong Category 4 storm bringing very high and life-threatening storm surge along vulnerable gulf coast communities as well as flooding rains, wind. Evacuation orders were in place.
Solution
Days ahead of the hurricane’s landfall, International SOS stood up a Crisis Management Team in Philadelphia in anticipation of requests for information and assistance. An Incident Management Team deployed to Florida, providing valuable intelligence, social media updates, and strengthening relationships with essential medical and security providers.
Impact
Working together, professionals on the ground and in the Philadelphia Assistance Center provided updates and messaging to clients, as well as fielding requests for specific information and advice.
