A tsunami alert has been issued for the south-eastern coast of Sumatra island and the west of coast of Java. This follows a magnitude 6.8 offshore earthquake that struck south-west of Pandeglang (Banten province, Java island) on 2 August.
Sally Napper, security expert at International SOS, comments, ‘Aftershocks are expected, potentially weakening infrastructure further, and the strong likelihood of a tsunami. It’s important for travellers in and to the region to have access to real time insights and assistance. These precautions will enable organisations to retain business continuity where possible and to make alternative travel arrangements on short notice if it becomes necessary.’
