Ongoing Bushfire Warnings and Health Advice

23 December 2019 ,  London

International SOS is continuing to provide advice and information for members affected by the ongoing bushfires across Australia.

James Bird, Security Director, International SOS comments, “Travel planning should account for bushfire danger warnings at least until February 2020. A state of emergency is in effect in New South Wales (NSW) state until 26 December. Members travelling in Australia should closely monitor ongoing bushfires and  be prepared to defer or change travel plans at short notice, especially for journeys to non-urban areas. Defer all travel to areas under a Catastrophic Fire Danger warning and defer non-essential travel to non-urban areas under an Extreme Fire Danger warning.”

Dr Irene Lai, Medical Director, International SOS adds “Many areas that are not at risk from fire, including the centres of major cities such as Sydney and Brisbane, are experiencing poor air quality. People should reduce exposure as much as practically possible by minimising time and physical exertion outdoors, and consider using a respirator (P2/N95 mask) if outdoors.”

For more information visit the International SOS Air Pollution website and monitor the Travel Security Online advisory for details on areas with Catastrophic Fire Danger Warnings in place.
