International SOS and Control Risks US and Turkey Visa Advisory

11 October 2017 ,  —

The US and Turkey have suspended all non-immigrant visa services for travel between the two countries. This means that no new non-immigrant visas will be issued for US nationals planning to go to Turkey (either upon arrival or before departure), or for Turkish nationals planning to go to the US. The US has clarified that Turkish nationals holding existing US visas can travel to the US as planned. However, the same may not apply for US nationals holding existing Turkish visas.

Our advice is that US nationals holding visas to Turkey should contact the closest Turkish embassy to verify whether or not their visa is valid, and reconfirm their travel itinerary with their airline.

James Bird, security expert at International SOS, comments, ‘Although there is currently no official end date to this suspension of visa services between the US and Turkey, we don’t expect it to become a long-term policy. However, we advise business travellers and travel professionals to – with our assistance – closely follow local developments and expect a continuation of this kind of disruption as a result of broader diplomatic disputes on an intermittent basis in future.’

International SOS & Control Risks as part of its 24/7 operation will continue to monitor the situation, in tandem with in-country contacts for any sign of escalation or changes to the revised policy and will continue to advise and assist its members as the dispute unfolds.
