    MEDIUM MEDICAL RISK for Bahrain
    MEDIUM TRAVEL RISK for Bahrain

Risk Summary

Anti-government demonstrations continue in many parts of the country as the government continues its crackdown on opposition activists. Protests will persist in Shia Muslim villages and neighbourhoods in and around the capital Manama, occasionally affecting central areas of the city. Activists sporadically use crude explosive devices either during demonstrations or by leaving such devices in public areas. Crime levels are lower than those in the US or western Europe. Bahrain has a relatively liberal atmosphere, compared with neighbouring countries such as Saudi Arabia, but personnel should not offend Muslim sensibilities. There is a risk of terrorism throughout the Arabian Peninsula. Potential targets include military, defence industry or diplomatic personnel or interests, as well as government and commercial buildings.

This information is intended as a summary of the travel security environment; however, the risks can change at short notice during a crisis or an evolving situation. Please check our travel security alerts to ensure you are informed of the most recent developments.
