Risk Summary

The country held presidential elections in 2015, and the social climate is currently calm. Nevertheless, protests remain possible and can also involve the erection of roadblocks. The government enforces security measures to restrict opposition action and limit criminal activity. The level of crime is therefore generally low, though the risk is greater in Lomé and at border crossings. Provincial towns pose fewer security risks than the capital. Unscheduled closures of overland border crossings with Ghana and Benin are possible.

This information is intended as a summary of the travel security environment; however, the risks can change at short notice during a crisis or evolving situation. Please check our travel security alerts to ensure you are informed of the most recent developments.
