Foreign business visitors face little risk of falling victim to crime, though vigilance is required after late-night visits to restaurants and bars; levels of crime during daylight hours are rising. Business travel is difficult; business facilities such as hotels, internal air links and communications systems barely exist or, if they do, function sporadically. Business visitors are advised to anticipate sporadic infrastructural problems in the capital Malabo, though better-quality hotels and expatriate residences have back-up generators and alternative water supply sources. The local security forces are poorly paid and lack discipline. Members are likely to face bribe demands from the security forces at roadblocks.

This information is intended as a summary of the travel security environment; however, the risks can change at short notice during a crisis or evolving situation. Please check our travel security alerts to ensure you are informed of the most recent developments.
