Bomb Explosions in London07 July 2005London
Following the bomb explosions this morning in London, International SOS has set up a crisis management centre at its London alarm centre to provide information and assistance to clients.
Authorities have confirmed that four explosions occurred during the terrorist attacks in London this morning. Current casualty figures include 33 confirmed fatalities and up to 1000 people injured. The number of fatalities is expected to rise. The first explosion took place on a London Underground train between Aldgate East and Liverpool Street stations. Two further Underground explosions occurred on a train travelling between Russell Square and King’s Cross station, and on a train in Edgware Road station. A fourth explosion occurred on a double-decker bus in Woburn Place, between Russell Square and Tavistock Square. It is not known whether the attacks were carried out by suicide bombers or whether explosives were left on the trains and bus. A group calling itself the ‘Secret Organisation of al-Qaeda in Europe’ has claimed responsibility for the attack on an Islamic website. The statement also warns the governments of Denmark, Italy and all ‘Crusader’ governments of similar attacks if troops are not withdrawn from Iraq and Afghanistan. The Metropolitan Police has confirmed that traces of explosives have been identified at the scenes of two of the explosions. Prime Minister Tony Blair has left the G8 summit to return to London, although it is expected that the summit will continue as scheduled. The G8 leaders united in condemnation of the attacks. Authorities have established a London hotline for inquiries about casualties and missing persons associated with the bombings. In the US dial 011-44-870-1566-344. In the UK dial 0870-1566-344.
