23 June 2005
Singapore
International SOS has air-lifted the Hong Kong aid worker who suffered a gun-shot wound in the neck in Aceh to Singapore on an air ambulance, a Beechcraft 1900 for surgery at the Mount Elizabeth Hospital.
The patient is accompanied by an International SOS medical team, comprising an aviation medicine doctor, anaesthetist and an ICU doctor and nurse. The patient left Medan at 1855 hrs (Singapore time) and is scheduled to arrive at Seletar Airbase at approximately 2030 hrs (Singapore time).
The patient is currently conscious and in a stable condition. She is also breathing without medical aid and can move her limbs.
International SOS had earlier assisted in her admission to the Intensive Care Unit at the Gleneagles Medan Hospital. At the hospital, International SOS doctors worked with the local doctors to stabilize the patient, took the necessary and precautionary X-rays as well as attended to her wound.
