International SOS’ response to Cyclone Nargis in Myanmar08 May 2008Myanmar
The International SOS Yangon Clinic in Myanmar sustained minor damages in the wake of Cyclone Nargis, which hit the region on May 3. The damage to the building has been repaired and the clinic remains fully operational. Two doctors and a nurse are on duty during the day and at night, the clinic is staffed by a nurse and a doctor is available on-call.
International SOS Singapore, the lead crisis center in Asia, is reinforcing its team in Yangon with the addition of doctors and operational staff. The first doctor arrived in Yangon at noon on May 7. The doctor brought additional medication and other supplies so that assistance can continue to be provided to members of the Yangon Clinic. International SOS has received requests from donors eager to contribute aid, and from volunteers who want to assist on-the-ground.
