MedAire unveils exciting enhancements in aircraft first aid kit 1.0

25 October 2012

Tempe, AZ

MedAire, an International SOS company, announces the latest release of its Aircraft First Aid Kit and Aircraft First Aid Kit Rx, the standard in medical kits for the world’s business and general aviation aircraft.  The first aid kits are currently available in the United States; with global availability planned for early 2013.

Key updates to the Aircraft First Aid Kit 1.0 include medications to address motion sickness, oral rehydration salts to address dehydration and a digital wrist blood pressure cuff to improve diagnostic accuracy in flight.

The enhancements were the result of an evaluation of the medical kits’ contents by the MedAire Medical Product Review Board, who meet annually to review MedAire’s medical kit contents to ensure they continue to meet the needs of the customer; that applicable regulatory revisions are met; to consider new medications and equipment to benefit the client and to enhance overall product value.

The MedAire Medical Product Review Board also leveraged data from MedLink, its world-famous telemedicine center, to analyze the most common in-flight ailments and determine the medications and equipment to best assist passengers and crew of an aircraft.

“The wellbeing of an aircraft’s passengers and crewmembers are the basis for each and every decision we make when determining what medications and equipment to include in our medical kits,” said Dr. Paulo Alves, VP of Aviation Health at MedAire.  “Quality, accurate and timely assistance is the goal for all medical equipment and services provided by MedAire.”

The MedAire Aircraft First Aid Kit 1.0 meets or exceeds FAR Parts 91, 121, 135, EU-OPS 1.745, Canada AOHS (Section 9.8) (Sch 2) (Type B) and HKCAD AN101E requirements.

The Aircraft First Aid Kit Rx 1.0 includes the enhancements above, as well as a bronchodilator and ondansetron to address nausea and vomiting.

MedAire also announced the availability of the updated Emergency Medical Kit Rx.  The Emergency Medical Kit Rx 1.0 works in conjunction with the Aircraft First Aid Kit 1.0 and includes an increased quantity of ondansetron, inclusion of burn gel dressings; and additional survival kit items, including an LED flashlight.

MedAire’s medical kits are fully integrated with its travel risk management solution, which includes MedAire’s MedLink, providing doctors visibility into the medical equipment on board the aircraft, saving valuable time when administering assistance to a patient.  The kit contents and their applications are also reviewed in MedAire’s industry-leading Management of In-Flight Illness & Injury course taken by flight crew, owners, and operators.

All MedAire medical kits are assembled under strict ISO 9001 quality assurance standards, and MedAire’s production facilities are ISO certified.  The Aircraft First Aid Kit 1.0 and Emergency Medical Kit Rx 1.0 are currently available for North and South America, with global availability planned for early 2013.

MedAire offers a full line of medical kits for the light aircraft to the ultra-long range.  MedAire announced the launch of the Advanced Aviation Medical Kit in the United States last month.
