International SOS Awarded China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs Contract03 November 2010Beijing, China International SOS was awarded the contract to provide comprehensive medical and security assistance services to the People’s Republic of China, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA). Under the new agreement, MFA Chinese diplomatic personnel stationed abroad and their families can access International SOS’ 24/7 assistance services from their 25 global alarm centers and receive medical treatment and support at International SOS clinics worldwide. They can also obtain pre-travel advice, security and medical alerts and be evacuated in a serious medical or security incident. At the signing ceremony in Beijing on 17 September, Yang Jiechi, Minister of Foreign affair, China highlighted that the MFA recognized that significant risks exist for their global workforce when they work and live abroad. He added: “The MFA has a duty of care to ensure the safety and well-being of our diplomatic personnel. International SOS has been appointed as a trustworthy partner to help manage and mitigate these risks.” Laurent Sabourin, Group Managing Director of International SOS, said of the contract: “China’s foreign affairs policy is highly influential as it emerges as a rising power backed by its robust economy, an engine of world economic growth.
