MedAire, Control Risks form alliance

22 September 2010

Monaco

Yacht owners, guests and crew will enjoy additional peace of mind and an added layer of protection as MedAire, the world's largest integrated maritime medical and security services company, and Control Risks, the leading global business risk consultancy, join forces to offer 24/7 medical, travel and security advice and assistance via a single phone number and website portal.

The strategic alliance between MedAire, an International SOS company, and Controls Risks will provide MedAire's yachting clients the ability to contact security specialists 24 hours a day for up-to-date security and safety information as well as timely and expert advice on managing risks such as piracy and natural disasters. Members will also receive support and evacuation services using the combined operational resources of MedAire and Control Risks.

"MedAire and Control Risks bring more than 30 years of experience serving the yachting industry, including a proven record in helping yachting owners and captains manage medical and security risks throughout their journey," said Grant Jeffery, CEO, MedAire. "Together, our combined team of more than 900 doctors and 200 security specialists, who understand the remote maritime environment, will help members cope with medical and security issues as they arise."

MedAire (http://www.medaire.com/) and Control Risks (http://www.control-risks.com/) have offices, global response centres and projects spanning five continents and 150 countries, including the:

  • Global Information Centre in New Delhi, which monitors developments worldwide and analyses threats travelers may face.
  • Global Security Centre, which is a 24/7 operations base in London that offers urgent and non-critical advice to clients.
  • Regional Security Centres in Dubai, London, Paris, Philadelphia and Singapore, which are on standby to deploy evacuation and other assistance operations.

As Control Risks' CEO Richard Fenning told attendees at last week's Superyacht Security Summit in London: "Whilst yachting only accounted for a small proportion, just 2 percent, of global incidents at sea in 2010, robbery and hijacking are recognised threats in certain parts of the world including South America, the Caribbean and the Horn of Africa. Yacht owners should seek advice prior to departure to ensure they are able to mitigate risks as far as possible--but also, should an incident occur, that they have access to immediate assistance."

For more information, please visit MedAire's stand (Jetée Nord QN11) at the Monaco Yacht Show, 22-25 Sept.
