International SOS’ web-based assistance services system recognized at CIO awards28 March 2007Singapore
This project is the world’s first web-based services system in the medical assistance sector. Named Magellan, this software platform provides immediate access to information on a patient or client, anywhere in the world. This shortens the turnaround time, which is especially crucial for emergency cases.
CIO Awards are presented to the five most outstanding companies on the prestigious CIO Asia CIO 100 list, which comprises the top 100 Asian companies that have deployed information and communications technology to derive the highest strategic value and yielded the greatest returns for their key operations and businesses. Speaking at the Award Ceremony, Todd Schofield, Chief Technology Officer of International SOS, said, “As a single multi-purpose application, Magellan serves as a vital link for International SOS’ global network of 27 alarm centres as critical client information such as medical conditions, family contact details and certification for air evacuations can be accessed and updated simultaneously, even in remote locations. At International SOS, we are constantly looking for innovations that can further improve our emergency response infrastructure. This award recognizes our ongoing commitment to enhance the quality of our services.” Todd added, “International SOS initiated project Magellan to standardise and integrate its disparate assistance and finance systems onto a common service delivery platform to provide better service to its customers. Our reputation is built on its ability to respond flexibly and speedily to widely varied and developing situations anywhere in the world. Thus, we needed appropriate systems to support our alarm centre teams in delivering quality services in demanding situations.” International SOS has also been exclusively invited to give a plenary presentation at the CIO Conference on the topic, ‘I – Innovator: The inside look on an enterprise initiative that transformed its industry/sector, globally.’ “We are glad to be able to share our technology developments with the CIO community at this conference, with our focus on delivering the best service to our customers –leveraging our new custom Magellan application for integrated global case management and finance.” Todd commented. “International SOS was one of the top five companies selected out of the 100 companies across Asia as it is in a very unique position in terms of its business and breadth of operations. For a company that does not have any competitor which comes close to what it does, it is heartening to see it has invested heavily in technology to support its business operations,” commended Mr Teng Fang Yih, Editor, CIO Asia and one of the judges of CIO Awards.
