International SOS evacuates three victims of Garuda plane crash for treatment08 March 2007Indonesia
The first patient, a 34-year-old Australian woman, was evacuated to Perth in a Learjet 45 air ambulance and arrived at 0100 hrs on March 8. An International SOS Intensive-Care-Unit (ICU) team comprising two doctors and a nurse accompanied her.
The second patient was a 51-year old Australian male. He arrived in Singapore approximately at 1220 hrs, on a Learjet 35 air ambulance accompanied by an ICU doctor and nurse. The third patient was a 46-year old Indonesian female. Together with her two relatives were flown from Yogyakarta, they arrived in Jakarta before midnight on a Fokker 50 air ambulance, accompanied by two doctors and two paramedics. International SOS activated its medical, security and logistics resources in Jakarta and Singapore immediately after the crash occurred. The resources included senior medical staff, aviation, travel personnel and logistics specialists. The first response team comprising three doctors, two paramedics and two logistics specialists arrived in Yogyakarta on March 7, 2007. The team immediately visited the hospitals where the injured had been sent and assessed those who required medical support and provided assistance to those who requested to be evacuated. International SOS’ medical and logistics specialists will remain on the ground in Yogyakarta to assist with the identification of mortal remains. International SOS is also providing 24-hour support to its clients through its Jakarta and Singapore alarm centers to ensure that members and anxious families receive immediate advice and assistance.
