International SOS Namibia was founded in October 2001 when ‘Medical Rescue International’, which had been providing an emergency medical service to the citizens of Namibia since 1993, and ‘Aeromed’ operating since 1995, merged merged to form International SOS Namibia.
Today, International SOS Namibia operates a 24-hour medical alarm center with doctor-based supervision. The center always has medically qualified staff on duty and can activate Fire, Police and Ambulance services at any time, anywhere in Namibia.
In order to provide emergency medical support clients, including corporations and individuals, across the vast country, we have permanent bases in Windhoek, Swakopmund and Tsumeb supported by a fleet of 6 dedicated response vehicles and road ambulances distributed strategically throughout Namibia. Our fleet of three air ambulances based in Windhoek – a Cessna 402C, Cessna 441 and King Air 90 – are also used to provide emergency assistance across the country and elsewhere in the region.
We employ 49 staff members; 29 of whom are medical professionals providing advanced and basic life support. Our clients include various Medical Aid providers including Namibia Health Plan, Nammed and Bankmed as well as large insurance companies like Alexander Forbes and Mutual & Federal.
International SOS Namibia has been licensed as a Ministry of Health training center and we provide basic and advanced first aid to an average of 50 Namibians per month. Our training programs have recently been expanded to include fully accredited Paediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), International Trauma Life Support (ITLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) to medical professionals based in Namibia.
