Malaria for Expatriates and Travelers: An Online Course is an interactive online course designed to prepare your employees for working in a malaria
affected area.
Every year, around 30,000 travelers get malaria.
International SOS evacuates 30-50 severe malaria cases annually, and it is the leading cause of death from an infectious disease among expatriates and business travelers.
All of these deaths could be prevented if employees had taken the correct precautions.
By implementing this course, your company will help reduce the chance of your employees contracting malaria, and the costs associated with illness and evacuation.
You will also be able to track employee compliance, and so prove that your duty of care has been fulfilled.
The course consists of four comprehensive lessons. Each lesson uses multimedia (including animation, video and audio) to maintain employee interest and enhance the learning experience:
1. What is malaria?
Employees learn about malaria and how they can become infected. Common myths that often lead to risk taking behavior are also addressed.
2. Preventing mosquito bites
Detailed, practical instructions for prevention indoors, outdoors and while sleeping. Also covers household and community measures.
3. Medication to prevent malaria
Description of medications, dosing, schedules and potential side effects.
4. If you get sick
Specific instructions on how to identify a possible case of malaria, and what to do if symptoms develop – either while on assignment or after returning home. Common questions on children and
pregnant women are also answered.
Printable handouts are available at the end of each lesson.
Each lesson is followed by an exam
consisting of 5 multiple choice
questions that test the employee’s
understanding of key topics.
Prior to completing the course,
employees can be required to confirm
(via a check box) that they will comply
with the company malaria policy and
directives at all times. This
confirmation is stored for future
reference.
Using the International SOS Learning
Management System, your
administrators can:
- Set course completion dates.
- Track employee progress.
- Track test results.
- Generate detailed reports.
The online learning course is SCORM
compliant, and can be modified for use
with most existing Learning
Management Systems.
All content presented in Malaria for
Expatriates and Travelers: An Online
Course can be fully customized to
integrate with your existing malaria
policy and program. This ensures that
employees receive a consistent
message suited to their specific
working environment.
